Yelloween Veuve Clicquot: The Annual Halloween Party

It was a packed house at the Terminal City Club on Saturday, as Veuve Clicquot and JetSet Crew threw their annual Yelloween party. The sold-out event drew in hundreds of costumed partygoers who came out to see and be seen at one of the city’s busiest Halloween parties (in large part due to the PR work of The Promotion People).

The venue was decked out head-to-toe in all things Halloween, and accented with colorful lighting. A film production crew had been hired to handle all of the decorations and lights, which clearly paid off – the room had plenty of atmosphere. Music-wise, DJ Swete and DJ Leanne took to the tables playing a solid mix of house, electronic, top 40 and some classics. The dance floor area was packed for the better part of the night, as were the lineups for the two bars that were serving up Belvedere cocktails and glasses of Clicquot.

I love Halloween, and it’s always great to see so many people put so much effort (and creativity) into their costumes. There were actually very few duplicate costumes in the room this year, which made for some great people watching. Although there were literally dozens of amazing costumes, a few standouts (for me) included the Jamaican bobsled team, Karl Lagerfeld (cat and all), a Yeti, a scotch-sipping Ron Burgundy, a couple who came dressed as a fork and a knife and a snake-haired Medusa.

According to this year’s sales figures, the most popular costumes of 2013 included Walter White of ‘Breaking Bad’, the minions from ‘Despicable Me’, foxes in general (both men and women – in large part due to the Ylvis song), and, to nobody’s surprise, the Miley/Robin Thicke costume combo (I only recall seeing one Walter White, a couple of foxes and one Robin Thicke (he was sans Miley.. so maybe he was actually just dressed as a Foot Locker manager?))

Be sure to check out a handful of additional photos in the gallery below. So what’s next for JetSet Crew? Their annual James Bond-themed soiree takes place on November 16th at the Vancouver Club. For more deets and to purchase tickets, check out http://www.jetsetcrew.com/events.

The Sociables Guide to… Halloween Weekend

Halloween falls on a Thursday this year, which asks the age old question, “Do I go out the weekend before, the weekend after, or just say “screw work” and hit the town on a weekday?” Well, regardless of what you choose to do, we’ve got you covered. Check out The Sociables’ Guide to Halloween Weekend (but if you choose to stay in, eat an entire bag of candy and watch ‘Hocus Pocus’ on repeat, we won’t judge you). Below is just a fun-size sample of what’s going on in town

SATURDAY, OCTOBER 26TH, 2013

Yelloween Veuve Clicquot: The Annual Halloween Party
837 West Hastings Street, Vancouver, BC
The Promotion People - JetSet Crew Halloween Party
This annual party has been eight months in the making, and will be taking place at the exclusive Terminal City Club on West Hastings. The team behind the event has hired a film production crew to turn the venue into a haunted hide-away, complete with visual effects, spooky lighting, haunted decor and props, VIP loungers, and (most importantly) plenty of bars! There will be enough music to wake the dead, with DJ’s Swete, Leane and a special guest DJ taking to the tables. VIP tickets start at just $50, and include a complimentary cocktail, appetizers, access to a candy buffet (I’m sold), coat check, and VIP service. I’ve heard from many people that last year’s event (at the Tea House) was one for the books – so grab your costume and tickets (while you still can!) @ www.jetsetcrew.com

Halloween @ The Burrard Hotel
1100 Burrard Street, Vancouver, BC

Okay, so this is one event that I’m kind of kicking myself for not getting a ticket to earlier on. The recently renovated Burrard Hotel (one of the funkiest boutique hotels in town) will play host to literally one of the biggest Halloween parties I think this city has ever seen. The ENTIRE hotel has been rented out (that’s 72 rooms, spanning 4 floors for 1000 guests), and each room will have a unique theme. That’s right – so if you get bored of one room or don’t like the crowd, no problem – just head to the room next door! Tickets are available at http://www.xsocialseries.com/
UPDATE: The party (unsurprisingly) sold out almost instantly. There is currently a wait list to get tickets!

Celebrities Nightclub – PLAYHOUSE Halloween
1022 Davie Street, Vancouver, BC
Celebrities Nightclub, Blueprint Events & Grey Goose present PLAYHOUSE Halloween – a themed take on the club’s weekly event. Resident DJ’s Timeline, Yurie, Mattilda Ho & Mar!no will all be there, playing a mix of house anthems and club hits. I spent last Halloween at Celebs (when the Perry Twins were DJ’ing), and it was probably the most fun I’ve had on Halloween at a club/bar ever.. and that was before they made any renovations/upgrades! If you’ve been to Celebs since, you know that it has one of the best sound systems in town, and the interior/layout is unparalleled with its floor to ceiling LED lights. They had some pretty wild decorations and great live acts last year, so I imagine this year will only trump the last. Tickets are $25.00 and can be purchased online at www.celebritiesnightclub.com
UPDATE: Event is now sold out.

Halloween Costume Ball @ Telus World of Science
1455 Quebec Street, Vancouver, BC

In its 7th year, the Halloween Costume Ball has become a legendary Halloween tradition. This year’s festivities will include 2 rooms of music spanning 2 floors, a “hell-raising” sound and lighting system, 8 DJ’s & performers, 5 fully licensed bars and an 1100 person capacity. Science World has played host to some of the biggest and best parties in town, and I’m sure this one will be no different. Grab your tickets at www.twisted.ca or visit Beat Street or Eastside Urban Eyewear.

Pacific Coliseum – Dooms Night
100 N Renfrew Street, Vancouver, BC

Pacific Coliseum will be playing host to one of the biggest parties in town with Dooms Night – a two-day party featuring over 30 DJ’s including Tiesto and Markus Schulz. This is the only party to span two days (with, of course, a few hours in between so you can… um… sleep). Saturday’s event kicks off at 10pm and goes until 6am Sunday morning, with a 13 hour “break” until Sunday’s festivities begin at 7pm (and go until 1am). Party on, Wayne…

THURSDAY, OCTOBER 31ST, 2013

Halloween Thrilla 2013 @ Club 560
560 Seymour Street, Vancouver, BC

Another party that’s celebrating its 8th year anniversary is the Halloween Thrilla, taking place at Club 560 on Seymour Street. The event listing says it will feature “the crazy shit Vancouver never sees” which includes fire dancers, a Michael Jackson ‘Thriller’ zombie dance show, Sin City burlesque performers, an MJ impersonator, and giveaways for best costume. The event will also feature DJ Flipout, Kenya & TBA special guests spinning top 40, hip hop, party rock, classic & house all night long. I haven’t been to 560 in (almost) two years, but I gotta say, it’s one of the best venues in town. If you haven’t been, it’s an old A&B Sound that’s been renovated into a massive three-level club (seriously, there’s a DJ and a bar right next to the washrooms – it rules). Snag your tickets at http://www.ticketzone.com/event/Halloween-Thrilla-2013/181584

Celebrities Nightclub – Liberace: Back from the Dead
1022 Davie Street, Vancouver, BC
These guys most really love Halloween! Their weekly Liberace event (held every Thursday) will also have a Halloween spin, with a “Back from the Dead” theme. Head down (in costume, of course) on Thursday night for music by DJ Grind, Del Stamp, and live performances by Vancouver’s Next Drag Superstars Iona Whipp and Anita Wiglit. Best costume takes home $100 (beer money!) so come dressed to impress. Grab your tix at www.celebritiesnightclub.com or stop by Priape on Davie Street.

The Bacardi Boohaha
868 Granville Street, Vancouver, BC

DJ Flipout will be spinning today’s best hits and everyone’s Halloween favourites all night long, with prizes will be awarded throughout the night plus the chance to win $1,000 for best costume! The venue’s huge, and tickets are reasonable at $20.00 a pop, available at www.livenation.com and www.ticketmaster.com

The Resurrection: A Hip Hop Halloween x YEEZUS After Party
881 Granville Street
Remember that time Kanye cancelled his Vancouver concert FIVE HOURS before the show because the crew was apparently having issues at the border? I call bullshit, but it is what it is, and I chose to refund my ticket to the show. Regardless, whether you’re out on Thursday for a costume-clad good time, or heading out after the Yeezus show, head on over to Venue on Granville for The Resurrection: A Hip Hop Halloween x YEEZUS After Party featuring DJs C-Stylez, Rawkus, Lazyboy, and Aung. Tickets at the door, or at http://www.clubzone.com/events/685333/vancouver/venue/the-resurrection-yeezus-afterparty

OCTOBER 31ST, 2013 & BEYOND…

If you thought Halloween ended on the 31st, you were right… but that doesn’t mean the parties have to! Plenty of bars, pubs and clubs in the GVA will be hosting festivities all weekend long, including The Pint, Bimini’s, Lamplighter, Hooker’s Green, Three Brits, Portside, Butcher and the Bullock and Electric Owl. For a full list of venues and to purchase tickets, check out http://www.clubzone.com/halloween1/november/1/2013/vancouver-halloween-parties

Mark Your Calendars: VEUVE CLICQUOT Vegas-Style Brunch Party

Back in February, CanThrill and Veuve Clicquot hosted a Vegas-style brunch party at Killjoy Barbers in Yaletown – because what better way to spend your afternoon than with a glass of champagne in hand, surrounded by Vancouver’s liveliest crowd? The doors opened at 1:00PM, but if I wasn’t wearing a watch, I could’ve sworn it was 2:00AM – from the lighting to the music to the lively crowd – it was safe to say they pulled off a daytime party for the books. Upon entering the venue, guests were greeted with champagne, and a brunch buffet – and sure enough, debauchery ensued!

After the overwhelming success of the initial event, CanThrill and Veuve Clicquot are aiming to make the Vegas-style brunch party a monthly occurrence – as they should! Not only that, but beginning in April, CanThrill will be presenting a different “spectacular” every Saturday – so be sure to check out www.canthrill.com for future event details.

Mark your calendars, Sociables! CanThrill and Veuve Clicquot will be throwing the second Vegas-style brunch party on Saturday, March 9th, again at Killjoy. Doors open at 1:00PM, but be sure to get your tickets in advance at www.ticketzone.com/canthrill – they’re currently going for $25 a pop. Ticketholders will be greeted with a glass of champagne, a brunch buffet, and an exclusive pair of Veuve Clicquot shades! Prepare to get your day drunk on, Vancouver!

La Saint Valentin at The Waterfall Building

La Saint Valentin at The Waterfall Building – February 14, 2013

Don’t have someone to give you chocolates and flowers on Valentines Day?  Well just go out to a fabulous nightlife event.  ‘La Saint Valentin’ was a full featured evening of art, culture and fashion, and far more than just an excuse to get away from the couple-focused Valentines event.

This spectacular event was hosted at The Waterfall Building, an excellent and classy choice of venue.  The evening’s itinerary were presented by Vernard Goud of LuvnGrace and Hennessy Cognac and hosted by FashionTV’s Mandy Ross.  The fabulous (normally skylit) glass enclosure called the Waterfall Building sparkled under the night sky and was adorned by a gallery of visual arts by Miriam AroesteStacy Sakai, and Liza Lee.

Professional fashion apparel operators strutted the wares of their respective designers.  The fashion show lineup included Nicole BridgerNancy Perreault with Hive Mind Millinery, Designs by Guylaine Theriault, Sans Soucie and Pretty Bstard, including accessories by Mishe Jewels and Smitten Designs.  These shows were interspersed by live musical performances featuring Jim Cummins, Jan Sam, and Sarah K.

The evening wasn’t over when the shows ended.  The guests had a chance to chat with the artists and models, including many photo opportunities.  All this amounted to a perfect night of beauty and art for those who were looking for more than a romantic night for two.  What does it mean for the rest of the people?  As far as I’m concerned the true secrets of Valentines day can be found with mini cupcakes.  And cognac.

My Boyfriend’s Out of Town Party @ Bar None Yaletown

This year marked the first official Family Day in BC, so it’s only natural that everyone in town spent Sunday night like it was Saturday Part 2. I went out with a few friends to Bar None Yaletown for CanThrill’s ‘My Boyfriend’s Out of Town Party’ – which I had heard all about after last year’s event.

This was actually my first time going to Bar None (odd seeing as I live down the block), but it was a great time – the venue’s huge, music was great (Etherea & Johnny Omega were spinning), the people were all beautiful, and the booze was a flowin’.

The evening started out with a fashion show by Soleone for the ladies, but unfortunately we arrived a bit later on in the night and missed out on that one. The event was sponsored by Belvedere & Veuve Clicquot, so needless to say there was no shortage of shots or yellow champagne glasses!

This is an event definitely worth checking out again next year. In the meantime, be sure to check out CanThrill, who throws a huge variety of events all over town on a regular basis.

7 Days of Drinking: Daily Vancouver Drink Specials

7 Days of Drinking: Daily Vancouver Drink Specials

Ladies and gentlemen, we’re proud to present you with the 7 Days of Drinking… Don’t judge us… We just like to be consistent. We may live in one of the most expensive cities in the world, but thankfully our booze (can be) cheap. Here’s your guide to some of the best watering holes in town that won’t break the bank.  Let us know your go-to spot in the Comments section!

MONDAY

Relish Gastropub – 888 Nelson Street
Mondays are the worst, but $3 beer is the best. Be sure to check out Relish (located at Hornby & Nelson) – it’s a cozy gastropub that offers up some great pub food (and, of course, cheap beer).

TUESDAY

Hooker’s Green & New Oxford – 1141 Hamilton Street
Hungover from Monday night’s shenanigans? Drink it off. Hooker’s Green is a fairly new pub in Yaletown that serves up $2 schooners of lager and puts on a live comedy show every Tuesday. They’ve also got a pool table and some billiards if that’s more your thing. Upstairs from Hooker’s is New Oxford – one of my favorite Donnelly Pubs – where every Tuesday they serve up $3 pints. It’s not often that the  words “cheap drinks” and “Yaletown” are used in the same sentence!

WEDNESDAY

Earls on Top – 1185 Robson Street
Everyone loves Earls, but more so, everyone loves cheap beer. Hit up Earls on Top on Wednesdays for $3.99 18 oz pints of Albino Rhino. Great people watching patio overlooking busy Robson Street. You can be a creep from a distance!

THURSDAY

The Pint – 455 Abbott Street
Kitty corner to Tinseltown, The Pint has quickly become a Gastown staple. Thursday nights they offer up $4 pints of ANY beer on tap (yes, that even applies to Guinness). The Pint is hands-down one of my favorite downtown pubs for a few reasons – it’s huge, they have a wide variety of beer on tap, the food is top-notch, and the staff is awesome. Also, I believe if you get there between 4-6PM, $6 gets you a pint of beer and a pound of wings.

BONUS! Original Joe’s – 2525 Cambie Street
Want your damn mind blown? Go to Original Joes (on Cambie & Broadway) for HALF OFF bottles of wine. Seriously. Not to mention OJ’s has one of the best views in town (it’s located on the top floor) and a great summertime patio. But seriously… $14 bottles of wine.

FRIDAY

Soho Billiards – 1283 Hamilton Street
It surprises me how few billiards clubs or pool halls there in this city, but thankfully there’s Soho in Yaletown. Grab a few friends, rent a pool table ($15/hour), and enjoy some $3.75 highballs! Great place for a chill night with some friends.

SATURDAY

Yaletown Brewing Company – 1111 Mainland Street
Okay I’m starting to realize that maybe “cheap drinks” and “Yaletown” appear in the same sentence quite often. Everyone knows Saturday is the worst day of the week for drink specials, but Yaletown Brewpub serves up $5 “Brewer’s Selection” beers. The place is huge, and they serve up some great eats and have a massive selection of beer on tap. Great patio (in the summertime) for some good old fashion people watching, too.

SUNDAY

Oasis Ultra Lounge – 1240 Thurlow Street
Located in the heart of Davie Village, Oasis has been a neighbourhood staple for years. Though the bar may be best known for its bumpin’ weekend nightlife, Oasis also hosts a more laidback and intimate ‘Social Sunday’, serving up $8 pitchers to curb your hangover. You read that right… EIGHT DOLLAR PITCHERS. Oasis also has a great appie menu and one of the best patios on the block.
